Amazon Develops AR Glasses for Consumers and Drivers
Amazon is making strides into the augmented reality market. Recent reports reveal the company is developing two types of AR glasses. One set targets everyday consumers, while the other focuses on its delivery drivers.
Internally known as Jayhawk, the consumer glasses aim for a late 2026 or early 2027 release. These glasses will include advanced features such as microphones, speakers, a camera, and a full-color display in one eye. Furthermore, Amazon collaborates with the Chinese company Meta-Bounds to develop this technology.
On the other hand, Amazon is also creating a model for its delivery drivers, codenamed Amelia. This version prioritizes efficiency and productivity. Insiders suggest that Amelia could help reduce delivery times by seconds, a significant advantage in the fast-paced delivery landscape. Amazon plans to roll out these glasses in the second quarter of 2026.
The entrance of Amazon into the AR market adds competitive pressure to companies like Meta, which already has smart glasses available through its Ray-Ban collaboration. Meta plans to unveil its new AR glasses, dubbed Hypernova, during its upcoming Connect conference. These glasses will also follow the one-eye AR concept, enhancing the competition.
The development of AR glasses represents a significant step toward smarter urban environments. With innovative tools like these, Amazon aims to improve customer experiences and streamline delivery processes. As cities continue to evolve, these advancements could lead to more efficient public services and enhanced daily living.
