    Fast Facts

    1. Disappointing Performance: The Pixel 10 Pro XL underperforms compared to the Pixel 9 Pro XL, struggling with critical gaming metrics and showing increased “jank” in gameplay despite the newer Tensor G5 processor.

    2. Power Consumption Issues: The Pixel 10 Pro XL consumes significantly more power during gaming, particularly in Genshin Impact, leading to rapid battery drain without corresponding performance benefits.

    3. Game Compatibility Challenges: Many popular titles are unsupported on the Pixel 10’s PowerVR GPU, resulting in potential stability issues and graphical glitches, limiting the gaming experience.

    4. Driver Update Concerns: The Pixel 10 Pro XL ships with an outdated GPU driver, and Google’s vague commitment to future driver updates raises doubts about meaningful improvements, making the Pixel 9 a stronger choice for gamers.

Gaming on the Pixel 10 Isn’t Pretty Right Now

Google’s Pixel 10 Pro XL faces performance issues, especially in gaming. After testing popular Android emulators and mobile games, disappointment surfaced. The new model’s Tensor G5 processor, paired with an Imagination Technologies DXT-48-1536 graphics unit, underperformed compared to last year’s Pixel 9 Pro XL.

While gaming is often challenging on emulators, expectations were high for Android-native titles. Unfortunately, results varied widely. Popular games like “Call of Duty: Mobile” and “Genshin Impact” showed mixed outcomes. The Pixel 10 Pro XL struggled to maintain consistent frame rates, falling short in “Asphalt Legends,” where it lagged behind its predecessor.

Interestingly enough, the Pixel 10 performed better in “Genshin Impact,” achieving smoother gameplay but still failing to lock in at 60 frames per second.

Moreover, performance discrepancies revealed a more pressing issue. The Pixel 10 Pro XL exhibited more “jank,” or delayed frames, leading to noticeable stuttering. While the older model managed to deliver a smoother experience, the newer phone consumed more power to achieve only marginally better performance.

Compatibility also emerged as a significant concern. Many games, including “Alien Isolation,” remain unsupported due to the Pixel 10’s PowerVR GPU. Navigating glitches further complicates gaming, as artifacts appeared in some titles. The situation may improve with future driver updates, but no solid timeline exists.

Power consumption poses another challenge. The Pixel 10 Pro XL consumes excessive energy during gameplay, which drains the battery swiftly. In comparison, the Pixel 9 Pro XL is both less hungry and better at maintaining performance.

For those who cherish mobile gaming, patience may pay off. Although the Pixel 10 offers some advantages, it’s not the leap many expected. Gamers stand to benefit more from the previous year’s model, especially at a more appealing price point. As Google rolls out updates, potential remains for improvement, but users should keep their expectations in check for now.
