    Fast Facts

    1. Boost from Spectrum Purchase: AT&T’s acquisition of $23 billion in spectrum licenses from EchoStar significantly enhances its 5G performance, activating frequencies for data transmission across the U.S.

    2. Speed Increases for Subscribers: AT&T customers with 5G devices may experience download speeds up to 80% faster, while Internet Air subscribers see increases of up to 55%, enhancing gaming and streaming capabilities.

    3. No Price Increase: The spectrum upgrade comes without increased costs for existing customers, contrasting with competitors like Verizon and T-Mobile who have instituted price locks.

    4. Expanded Coverage and Efficiency: The new spectrum boosts AT&T’s network efficiency, reducing the need for new cellular towers, improving FirstNet services for first responders, and enhancing overall customer experience with faster, more consistent access.

Enhanced 5G Speeds Across the U.S.

AT&T recently made headlines by purchasing $23 billion in spectrum licenses from EchoStar. This investment significantly enhances 5G performance nationwide. The company activated midband spectrum frequencies, which improve data transmission. As a result, subscribers with 5G-capable devices or AT&T Internet Air plans can now enjoy impressive speed increases. Customers in upgraded areas can expect download speeds to rise by up to 80%. In addition, those using AT&T Internet Air may see speed hikes of up to 55%.

This boost opens the door for more reliable gaming and streaming experiences. Furthermore, it connects rural customers lacking access to fiber internet options. Most importantly, AT&T announced that these enhancements come at no additional cost to existing customers. This strategy contrasts with competitors like Verizon and T-Mobile, which have introduced price locks. Therefore, AT&T subscribers can remain optimistic about their monthly bills as they experience faster connections.

    Wider Implications for Connectivity

The new spectrum also significantly benefits AT&T’s internal network operations. It improves efficiency, reducing the need for new cellular towers. The upgrade encourages customers to bundle mobile and home internet services, enhancing overall connectivity. Additionally, this enhancement supports the AT&T FirstNet program, which secures communication for first responders during crises.

Over the coming weeks, AT&T has begun deploying technology to 23,000 cell sites. This rollout spans more than 5,300 cities across 48 states. Midband frequencies balance speed and coverage, offering a reliable solution for customers. As a result, users will see “5G+” on their status bars when connected to midband or millimeter-wave networks. This development promises faster, more consistent network access, significantly improving the user experience for AT&T customers nationwide.
