Spotify Launches ‘Bit-Perfect’ Playback in Windows App for Elite Sound Quality

    Quick Takeaways

    1. Spotify’s “Exclusive Mode” on Windows offers bit-perfect, lossless playback by giving the app full control over audio processing and disabling other system sounds.
    2. Turning on Exclusive Mode prevents audio alteration like resampling and mixing, ensuring songs are played exactly as mastered.
    3. For optimal quality, users should listen with wired headphones connected to a DAC and enable Spotify’s lossless streaming, both included in Premium.
    4. The feature is currently limited to Windows, with plans to release it on macOS in the future, all within the $13/month Premium subscription.

Spotify has announced a new feature for its Windows app that promises better sound quality. The company calls it “Exclusive Mode,” and it allows subscribers to hear songs exactly as they were recorded. This is a big step because, without it, the computer might change the music’s sound by resampling or mixing with other sounds.

With Exclusive Mode turned on, all other audio from the computer is turned off. This means the music remains pure and true to the original recording. However, for the best experience, users should still use wired headphones connected to a digital-to-analog converter, or DAC, and stream lossless audio through Spotify.

Right now, this feature is only available on Windows, but Spotify plans to add it to macOS soon. Enabling Exclusive Mode is easy for Premium subscribers—just switch it to “On” in the app settings.

Spotify first launched its Lossless streaming option in September 2025. Rumors about improvements like this have been around since 2017. The company officially announced it as Spotify HiFi in 2021, but now it’s included in the regular Premium plan, which costs $13 a month.

This focus on high-quality audio reflects a broader trend in modern cities and technology. As urban areas grow smarter, they use more innovations—like better audio— to improve daily life. Easy access to great sound can boost productivity, entertainment, and even community engagement, making cities more vibrant and connected.
