Analyst Dumps Fearful Bitcoin Bet, Turns Bullish

    Quick Takeaways

    1. A prominent analyst predicts a brutal Q2 for Bitcoin, citing weakening market participation, geopolitical risks, and technical signs pointing to a potential drop to $40,000-$45,000.
    2. Recent market activity suggests the rally from $60,000 to $76,000 was liquidity-driven, and a broader decline is expected despite short-term upward moves.
    3. Bitcoin’s network activity, including transaction fees, has fallen to levels typical of past market bottoms, indicating low demand and heightened volatility risk.
    4. Experts warn against chasing green candles in a bearish trend, emphasizing that such moves often benefit large whales rather than retail investors.

A popular analyst has warned of a tough second quarter for Bitcoin. This comes as market participation weakens, and external conflicts add pressure. Recently, conflicts in the Middle East caused Bitcoin’s price to slip nearly 3%, from $69,200 to around $66,000.

The analyst, known as Mr. Wall Street, now predicts a difficult period ahead. He believes that both short-term and mid-term outlooks are bearish. He points out that recent price rallies were likely efforts by market makers to create liquidity before a bigger decline.

Because of these concerns, he closed his short-term long positions and opened new shorts. He also placed additional orders between $77,000 and $83,000. His prediction is that Bitcoin could drop to between $40,000 and $45,000 soon.

Geopolitical risks play a key role, too. If tensions escalate involving the U.S. and Iran, oil prices could spike. That may lead to a global recession, hurting risk assets like Bitcoin.

Meanwhile, other experts highlight signs of waning network activity. João Wedson, founder of Alphractal, reports that Bitcoin’s transaction fees are at their lowest in years. This shows weaker network demand, which could lead to increased volatility.

He warns traders against chasing upward moves during this bearish trend. Past data suggests that quick gains often benefit big investors, not everyday traders. Buying into rising prices during a downturn might simply serve as liquidity for large players looking to offload assets.

Such dynamics reflect how technological factors, like network demand and transaction costs, influence Bitcoin’s market behavior. They also shape its potential to solve real-world problems, such as secure transactions and decentralization. However, increased volatility could slow its development into a stable, global currency.
