    Top Highlights

Tushar Mehta / Android Authority TL;DR
    1. Microsoft is enhancing Windows 11’s Phone Link with a dedicated phone flyout, providing quick access to phone status and toggle features like do not disturb and vibrate mode.
    2. A new standalone Messages app is in development, aiming to improve messaging experience beyond the existing Phone Link messaging feature.
    3. Improvements include a more comprehensive clipboard history sync and an upgraded Phone Companion widget showcasing recent activities without opening Phone Link.
    4. These features are still in prototype testing, with potential adjustments before wider release and feedback collection from the Insider community.

Bringing Android and Windows 11 Closer Than Ever

Microsoft is making big moves to integrate Android phones more deeply into Windows 11. This effort aims to create a smoother experience between your phone and PC. In the past, Microsoft launched apps that allowed limited interaction, like Your Phone and Phone Link. Now, they plan to expand these features significantly. The goal is for your phone to feel like a natural part of your Windows experience. This will make managing notifications, messages, and files easier. As a result, users will be able to switch between their devices more effortlessly. These changes promise to boost productivity and convenience for both casual users and professionals.

New Features to Enhance Connectivity and Control

One of the most exciting updates is a dedicated smartphone flyout. When your phone connects to your PC, a phone icon will appear on the Taskbar. Clicking this icon opens a quick overview of your phone’s status. You’ll see toggles for key features like Do Not Disturb, vibrate mode, and Find Phone. This setup lets users control important functions right from their PC. Additionally, users should be able to transfer files by simply dragging and dropping them onto the icon. Another upgrade involves the Phone Companion in the Start menu. It will show you recent activities without opening the main app and allow you to hover over items to see more details, such as full messages. These improvements aim to streamline daily tasks, saving time and reducing frustration.

New Messaging App and Improved Clipboard Sharing

Microsoft is also working on a standalone Messages app. Currently, messaging features exist within Phone Link, but the new app will be separate and more accessible. You can pin it to the Start menu and launch it easily. This change makes messaging more direct and user-friendly. Another important upgrade involves clipboard syncing. Today, only the last item you copied syncs between your phone and PC. Future updates aim to sync your entire clipboard history, making copying and pasting across devices seamless. These enhancements will likely appeal to users who rely on quick communication and smooth data transfer. Overall, Microsoft’s plans show a strong push to make Android and Windows work as a cohesive system, benefiting everyone from tech enthusiasts to everyday users.
