Don’t Expect More Assassin’s Creed Remakes Anytime Soon

Ubisoft has good news for Assassin’s Creed fans, but it also set a clear limit on nostalgia. The company says it has no other remakes in active development, even after Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced found success. Instead, its teams are building new entries with fresh settings and stories.

That choice may disappoint players who hoped to revisit more classics. Yet Ubisoft’s update points to a broader plan: support existing games, learn from the remake process and move the series forward.

Ubisoft puts new adventures ahead of more remakes

In a blog post, Ubisoft said it currently has no other Assassin’s Creed remakes in active development. The company also stressed that it remains open to revisiting older games later. For now, however, its teams are focused on upcoming projects, including titles Ubisoft has not announced.

That pause makes sense from a development perspective. Ubisoft said Black Flag Resynced required teams to rebuild old systems, add new elements and balance innovation with the original experience. Those demands take time. A remake needs to feel familiar enough to honor its source, yet modern enough to justify a return.

For players, that balance can shape the value of a remake. Better visuals alone may not make an old game feel new. Improved systems, thoughtful additions and respect for the original matter, too. Ubisoft says it learned a lot from the work, though it has not shared which lessons might guide future projects.

Meanwhile, the company promises new settings and stories. That could give longtime fans unfamiliar places to explore, while giving newer players a fresh entry point. Still, a new game cannot replace the appeal of returning to a favorite. Ubisoft now has to show that its next chapter can deliver its own lasting draw.

Updates give returning players more ways to play

Ubisoft has not left existing games behind. The company recently released the final major update for Black Flag Resynced. It added New Game+ and a higher difficulty level. New Game+ lets players begin another run while carrying forward some progress, giving experienced players a reason to return.

The feature also offers a practical benefit. Players can revisit the story without starting from zero, then test their skills against tougher challenges. That can make a familiar adventure feel different without changing its core identity.

Ubisoft also plans to add New Game+ to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the 2020 entry. The option arrives Nov. 5. The company says it will share more details in the coming days, including information about updates for current-generation consoles.

These additions may not match the excitement of a full remake. Still, they can extend a game’s life and offer fans more value from a title they already own. For players with limited time, a return run can feel more inviting when the game recognizes earlier progress.

New projects and a 20th anniversary set the next milestones

Ubisoft also shared brief updates on two upcoming games. The multiplayer project Codename Invictus now moves in what the company calls an exciting direction. After a playtest, the team adjusted its approach to include more familiar Assassin’s Creed elements.

That response suggests Ubisoft wants player feedback to shape the project. It has not revealed much about how the game will work, so fans will need to wait for details before judging the changes.

Codename Hexe, the next mainline entry, continues to make steady progress. Ubisoft describes it as a darker Assassin’s Creed experience. The company plans to share its next major update in 2027, leaving plenty of questions about its story and setting for now.

Beyond games, production has almost wrapped on Netflix’s live-action Assassin’s Creed series. Ubisoft has not announced a release window. The franchise will also mark its 20th anniversary in 2027, with a year of reveals, updates, rewards and community events planned.

So, fans should not count on another remake soon. But Ubisoft has several ways to keep the series moving: new stories, updates for existing games and projects shaped by player feedback. The anniversary year could bring a closer look at what comes next.
