    What Intent Continuity Brings to the Table

    Intent continuity focuses on carrying forward the actual purpose behind past decisions, not just their existence. Instead of hoping the system remembers everything, it actively verifies which past rules are still valid. For example, a rule to hide internal IDs might be relevant at first, but could become outdated later. By explicitly checking if newer rules have replaced old ones, the system keeps only current and relevant requirements. This approach isn’t about compressing data or adding complexity; it’s about meaningful context. The result is a system that can adapt as projects evolve, avoiding outdated or broken rules. It makes the agent smarter at understanding what truly matters at each stage.

    Functionality, Adoption, and Practical Use

    Implementing intent continuity requires a shift in how systems handle history. Instead of manually reminding the agent about rules or relying solely on retrieval, verification layers evaluate the validity of each past decision. In practice, this means no embeddings, no vector databases, and no external AI models are needed for core verification. Tests show that agents using intent-aware methods perform nearly perfectly across complex tasks, compared to those relying on simple retrieval. For teams working on long-term projects, this shift can prevent errors caused by forgotten rules. While adding verification adds some tokens and complexity, the gains in correctness are noticeable. Many organizations value this balance—trusting only what is verified and current—making intent continuity a crucial step toward smarter, more reliable coding agents.
