iPhone Users Beware: Kaspersky Flags 26 Fake Crypto Wallet Apps That Could Drain Your Funds

Cybersecurity experts from Kaspersky have identified a troubling issue. They found 26 fake crypto wallet apps on Apple’s App Store. These apps look real but are designed to steal users’ digital money.

Initially, the apps imitate popular wallets like MetaMask, Ledger, and Trust Wallet. They copy names and logos to appear legitimate. Once users open these apps, they get redirected to phishing sites that look like the App Store. These sites then prompt users to download a second app. However, this second app is a trojan that can access and drain crypto funds.

This scam has been active since fall 2025. Kaspersky links it to hackers behind SparkKitty, a known malware strain. Interestingly, the fake apps mainly target users in China. Still, anyone could be at risk because the malicious software can be shared worldwide.

The apps include fake features like games and calculators. This false functionality helps them seem trustworthy. When installed, they prompt users to install a developer profile. This step is crucial for attackers—they exploit this to load malicious software onto devices.

Once installed, the malicious apps mimic real wallet behavior, affecting both hot and cold wallets. Although the apps may not contain harmful code, they act as gateways for broader attacks. Experts warn users to stay cautious even on devices as secure as iPhones.

Kaspersky recommends everyone verify app sources carefully. To keep assets safe, always download apps from official stores and avoid granting unnecessary permissions. As threats evolve, awareness remains the best defense against losing valuable crypto investments.

These fake iOS apps appear legitimate but redirect users to phishing pages, leading to malware installation and eventual theft of crypto assets.
