    Essential Insights

    1. Hark launched Handoff, an agent that navigates websites without APIs.
    2. It can perform tasks like shopping, booking, and research using website data.
    3. The model predicts next actions, improving efficiency and speed over competitors.
    4. Hark plans to release the platform by summer’s end, offering lower costs.

Hark’s New Browser Agent Promises Efficient Task Automation

Hark, a startup that recently raised $700 million in Series A funding, has launched a new tool called Hark Handoff. This browser use agent aims to complete tasks by navigating websites quickly and accurately. The company says Handoff can handle sites without official APIs, such as Target, Walmart, OpenTable, and LinkedIn. It works by analyzing website structure and visual data to decide when to click buttons or enter information.

Many tools like Hark’s have appeared before. Users give commands, and the agent takes care of jobs like ordering food, booking travel, shopping, or researching. In a demo video, Hark’s CEO, Brett Adcock, showed how the agent can build a flower bouquet based on user instructions. It can even interpret vague commands like “some of the florist’s choice.” But the demo only showed part of the process. It’s hard to tell how well the agent works in all situations.

    Technology, Costs, and Future Plans

Hark says it’s using a post-trained model for now and plans to pre-train later this year. This approach allows the company to improve its data pipeline and training methods faster. Unlike large language models that predict the next word, Hark’s model predicts what action to take next, such as clicking a button or typing text.

Numerous companies, including Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic, develop similar tools. VC-funded startups like Browser Use, Polar, Strawberry, and Aside also explore browser-based task automation. Hark claims its Handoff agent is faster and cheaper than competitors, such as GPT 5.5 or Opus 4.8. The company has opened a waitlist and plans to launch the tool by the end of summer.

These advances in automated browsing are promising, but users should weigh the technology’s practicality and accuracy. While such tools could save time and improve productivity, there is still work to do to ensure they handle complex tasks reliably.
