    Essential Insights

    1. Migration to Solana: The game Infected, experiencing significant demand with 130,000 sign-ups in 48 hours, has shifted from Ethereum’s Layer-2 Base to the Solana blockchain due to transaction volume issues during launch.

    2. Infrastructure Limitations: The development team criticized Base’s scalability, highlighting that failed transactions and high gas prices adversely affected player participation, ultimately impacting the game’s performance and user experience.

    3. User-Centric Approach: The decision was influenced by user feedback and Solana’s more consumer-friendly ecosystem, which the team believes is better suited for high-volume applications compared to Ethereum’s technically focused environment.

    4. Ongoing Development on Solana: Infected intends to launch future games on Solana, viewing it as the best infrastructure available for consumer-facing applications, signaling a shift in strategy from previously supported Layer-2 solutions.

Simulation Game ‘Infected’ Moves to Solana Amid Transaction Issues

The breakout simulation game ‘Infected’ is making headlines for its recent shift from Ethereum’s Layer-2 network Base to the Solana blockchain. This decision follows significant transaction bottlenecks during the game’s launch.

The team announced the change via the game’s official social media platform, highlighting Base’s challenges in managing high transaction volumes. The game attracted 130,000 sign-ups within just 48 hours. However, the surge in interest led to increased gas prices and numerous failed transactions, especially in the Initial launch phase.

Developers reported that many users could not participate due to these issues, which negatively affected the game’s user experience and momentum. They emphasized that while this issue is not exclusive to Base, it exemplifies broader scalability challenges across EVM-compatible chains. Originally, the team viewed Layer-2 solutions as the future of Ethereum scalability. Now, they see ongoing structural limitations in these systems.

The migration to Solana was fueled by two main advantages: user culture and community engagement. Developers praised Solana’s more consumer-oriented approach, contrasting it with Ethereum’s technically advanced, builder-focused environment. Solana boasts a vibrant developer community, which supports user-friendly applications like Pump.fun and DAOs.fun.

User feedback significantly influenced the decision to switch. Many players expressed a desire for a game version built on Solana to ease asset bridging. The team stated, “If they are on XRP, we’d go to XRP. If that was Bitcoin mainnet, we’d go there. But today’s users are on Solana.” Furthermore, the team plans to launch future games on Solana, recognizing its infrastructure’s capability to handle high-volume, consumer-focused applications.

In response to the migration, Jesse Pollak, head of Base and Coinbase Wallet, addressed claims that Base "crashed" during the launch. He stated that the network functioned as intended and suggested that the issues stemmed from frontend problems, a viewpoint the Infected team disputed. Pollak mentioned that his team had reached out to Infected but had not received a response.

This transition showcases the evolving dynamics of blockchain platforms and user needs, highlighting a growing preference for adaptable and responsive systems in the gaming industry. By choosing Solana, Infected aims to enhance player experience while navigating the complexities of blockchain technology.
