    Essential Insights

    1. Meta is testing a long-overdue redesign for Threads on web, introducing direct messaging and easier navigation between feeds.
    2. The update adds new shortcuts on the side panel, including saved posts, insights, activity, and multiple feeds, which were previously hard to access.
    3. For the first time, web users can now access the Threads inbox, a feature previously available only on the app since June.
    4. Alongside web improvements, Threads mobile replies are being tweaked with slight indentation to enhance conversation clarity, currently on iOS and testing on Android.

Meta is launching a redesigned version of Threads on the web, offering users a better experience. This update adds direct messaging, a feature many users had been waiting for. Previously, web users could navigate feeds and access some features, but important tools like the inbox were missing. Now, the new layout makes it easier to find saved posts, insights, activity, and switch between feeds.

According to Meta’s head of Threads, Connor Hayes, the company has already begun testing the new design. He also mentioned that Meta plans to invest more in web features moving forward. This is a significant development, as it helps users stay connected more efficiently across devices.

The last major update to Threads on the web was in April, mainly adding basic functions. Since then, most updates have focused on the mobile app, which now includes features like disappearing “ghost posts.” These can be viewed on the web but are only created in the app, highlighting the ongoing mobile-first approach.

This change comes just a day after Hayes previewed an update to reply formatting on mobile, making conversations easier to follow. Replies will now be slightly indented, improving the clarity of threads. The new web design will help users navigate Threads more seamlessly, making social media interaction more user-friendly. Such improvements are vital as cities grow smarter, integrating technology into daily life to enhance communication, collaboration, and innovation.
