    Fast Facts

    1. Microsoft Edge has launched a dedicated extension store for its Android browser, now featuring over 20 extensions including VPNs, password managers, and media downloaders.

    2. Unlike Google Chrome, which still lacks extension support on Android, the stable version of Edge (v134.0.3124.57) allows users to easily access and install extensions.

    3. Key extensions available include Dark Reader, Bitwarden, NordVPN, and AIX Downloader, with the extension store still labeled as "Beta," indicating ongoing improvements.

    4. While users express interest in switching to Edge for its extension support, Google has yet to confirm any plans for adding extensions to Chrome for Android.

Microsoft Edge has taken a bold step, introducing an extension store for its Android browser before Google Chrome. This move marks a significant shift in mobile web browsing capabilities.

Edge’s latest stable version, v134.0.3124.57, now features over 20 extensions. Users can enhance their browsing experience with tools like VPNs, password managers, and media downloaders. Popular choices include Dark Reader for night mode, Bitwarden for secure password management, and NordVPN for safe surfing.

Previously, Edge offered limited extension options through its Canary build. Developers tested these extensions, but now Microsoft has rolled out a full-fledged store. This expansion opens the door to a wider range of functionalities on mobile devices. Users can easily access the store by updating their Edge browser, navigating to the menu, and selecting the Extensions Store.

The introduction comes as Google Chrome remains without extension support on Android. Despite Google’s dominance in the browser market, many users have long awaited the added functionality that extensions provide on their mobile devices. While Google hints at exploring extensions for Chrome, no official timeline exists.

This development could sway users to switch browsers. A recent poll shows that 38% are inclined to try Edge for its new features, while 41% already favor it.

In a rapidly evolving tech landscape, Microsoft Edge’s move highlights the growing demand for adaptability in mobile browsing. As smart cities foster innovation, such advancements may enhance user experience and create more efficient online environments. This shift not only enhances individual browsing but encourages broader engagement in urban tech solutions.
