    Essential Insights

    1. Google may add an extra confirmation step to Quick Share, requiring the recipient to accept the transfer and the sender to initiate it, especially when devices are linked to different Gmail accounts.
    2. The new process involves three steps: sender selecting the recipient, recipient accepting, and then sender tapping their device name to start the transfer.
    3. This change aims to improve security by ensuring files are sent intentionally but may cause inconvenience if the sender and recipient are not physically close.
    4. Google is also developing safeguards requiring biometric or passcode verification before sending files, enhancing protection against unauthorized transfers.

Google’s Quick Share feature, known for making file transfers quick and easy on Android, may soon involve a new step. While this adds a small inconvenience, it aims to improve security. Currently, when you send a file to someone with a different Gmail account, the recipient must accept the transfer. Once they do, the file begins to send automatically.

However, Google is testing a change. Under this new process, the recipient will accept the file request first. Then, the sender must tap their device’s name again to start the transfer. This extra step helps confirm the recipient’s identity, reducing mistakes. For example, it prevents accidentally sending files to the wrong person or device. If both devices are linked to the same Google account, this step may not be needed.

While some might see this change as a minor hassle, it reflects a broader effort to boost privacy. Google is also developing safeguards that could require users to verify their identity with biometrics or passcodes before sending files. These measures would protect devices from unauthorized transfers.

These updates come at a time when smart cities and urban innovations are changing how we live and work. Better security in data sharing complements the development of connected infrastructure and safe digital environments. As technology advances, these small improvements foster trust and efficiency, making smart urban living more seamless and secure.
