    Summary Points

OpenAI added Computer History to ChatGPT desktop for activity tracking.
It records clicks, keystrokes, and app switches into summaries and timelines.
Users can ask ChatGPT about recent activities to improve assistance.
Privacy is prioritized with options to select apps and pause data collection.

Introducing a Smarter Way to Track Your Digital Activities

OpenAI recently released a new feature called Computer History for the ChatGPT desktop app. Unlike Chronicle, which relied on screenshots, Computer History uses macOS’s accessibility system to monitor your clicks, keystrokes, and app switches. It then turns this data into text summaries and an easy-to-navigate timeline. This method is less intrusive and produces cleaner, more useful information. It acts like ChatGPT taking quiet notes on your day so it can help you better later.

Once activated, Computer History allows ChatGPT to remember what you were doing across different apps and websites. When you ask questions, like “what was I working on before my break,” ChatGPT can quickly find the answer by browsing your recent activity. It saves you time and effort by reducing the need to recall details from memory. If you repeat tasks often, ChatGPT can suggest automations based on your patterns, making your workflow more efficient.

    Focus on Privacy and Control

Turning on Computer History requires manual action. It stays off until you enable it in Settings under Integrations. You can choose which apps and websites to track, and private browsing stays safe. You can also pause collection at any time or delete your history completely. This feature appeals to users who want personalization without sacrificing privacy.

For business users, an admin must grant access. Even then, users must opt in individually. Registering as a Pro user allows quick activation from Settings. OpenAI emphasizes privacy by design, giving users detailed control over what is stored and used.

This upgrade outshines Chronicle for its privacy-focused approach and ease of use. It offers a practical, powerful way to make your digital life more connected and less cluttered. By simplifying how ChatGPT tracks and understands your activity, OpenAI helps you work smarter without unnecessary worries.
