    1. Innovative Educational Offerings: Tade Oyerinde’s Campus provides flexible, skill-based courses and degrees, emphasizing a future where individuals can access ongoing education through membership and subscription models.

    2. Financial Sustainability: Oyerinde leverages Pell Grants and support from notable investors to keep Campus affordable, prioritizing educational impact over immediate profits.

    3. Community Engagement through Fizz: Teddy Solomon’s Fizz thrives on college campuses with features like peer-to-peer marketplaces and interactive content, aiming to enhance student connections and expand globally.

    4. User-Centric Monetization: Fizz focuses on ad revenue and building a quality product, highlighting the importance of user satisfaction in driving growth and retention.

    Community Building in Education

Tade Oyerinde and Teddy Solomon stood out at TechCrunch Disrupt this year. Their insights on community engagement reflect a growing trend in the education and social app landscapes. Oyerinde, founder of Campus, shared his vision for accessible education. With over 3,000 students and 100 part-time professors, Campus offers flexible courses tailored to modern workforce needs. For instance, employers increasingly seek specific skills, prompting Campus to introduce à la carte classes on vital topics like vibe coding.

Moreover, Oyerinde emphasized the value of affordability, leveraging Pell Grants to ensure broad access. He believes that education must evolve alongside societal needs. In his words, “Everyone will have some sort of membership or subscription service to develop new skills.” This forward-thinking approach highlights the necessity of adaptability in education.

    Engagement through Innovation

On the other hand, Solomon’s Fizz illustrates the potential of social apps in cultivating engaged communities. Operating on over 200 college campuses, Fizz recently introduced features that foster deeper connections among users. The peer-to-peer marketplace, boasting over 100,000 listings, enhances user interaction while giving them a platform to express themselves through video content.

Solomon also discussed future growth. The upcoming product, Global Fizz, aims to expand beyond U.S. borders, embracing a wider audience. As Fizz looks to monetize, Solomon emphasized the importance of user happiness. “The users are everything,” he insisted, underscoring that a satisfied user base is vital for long-term success. Ultimately, both Oyerinde and Solomon showcase pragmatic strategies to build engaged communities, highlighting their contributions to the ever-evolving human journey.
