    Fast Facts

    1. End of LCD Models: Valve has discontinued production of the Steam Deck LCD 256GB model, meaning it will no longer be available once sold out.

    2. OLED as the Only Option: The only available models now are OLED, starting at $549 for 512GB and increasing to at least $649 for 1TB.

    3. Upgrade Benefits: The OLED version offers better battery life and a larger display with a higher refresh rate, providing a significant upgrade over the LCD models.

    4. Ongoing Support for LCD Owners: Valve will continue to support existing LCD models with future software updates for current owners.

Valve Discontinues Last LCD Model of Steam Deck

Valve has officially discontinued the last remaining LCD model of the Steam Deck. In a recent announcement, the company stated it will no longer produce the 256GB LCD version. Once stock runs out, it will vanish from shelves for good.

At this moment, the 256GB LCD model, priced at $399, is sold out. Even refurbished units of this model have cleared out. Valve shifted focus to its OLED variants, which offer upgrades that many fans find appealing.

The OLED model boasts a larger display and a higher refresh rate, enhancing the gaming experience. Additionally, it provides longer battery life. However, this comes at a higher price. The entry-level OLED model starts at $549, with a 1TB option priced at $649.

While some may lament the loss of the affordable LCD version, its discontinuation reflects market trends favoring advanced technology. Fortunately for current owners, Valve plans to support LCD models with future software updates, ensuring a positive experience.

Purchasing decisions now lean heavily toward the OLED models, which demonstrate Valve’s commitment to innovation in gaming. Despite the price increase, many gamers may appreciate the enhanced features and performance. As Valve moves forward, it continues to push the boundaries of handheld gaming, promoting a brighter future for users around the globe.
