Google’s Search Widget Testing Revamped Shortcuts Button

Google is making strides with its Search home screen widget. Recently, the tech giant introduced a customizable shortcut button. This feature enables users to quickly access a specific tool of their choice. However, Google is now working on something even more exciting: the Multi Shortcuts button.

This new button promises to enhance functionality. Instead of limiting users to one tool, it will provide access to multiple tools in a pop-up window. The updated design will position the shortcut button in a circle to the right of the search bar, offering a more intuitive layout.

As of March 1, 2025, the Multi Shortcuts button appears to be in active testing. Users on select Android devices can already see this feature in action. While it is not yet available for everyone, signs indicate progress toward a broader rollout.

The current version of the widget allows access to helpful features such as translation, dictionaries, finance updates, and song recognition. However, users have noted the potential for even greater versatility with the future update. Insights from recent code findings suggest that accessing all tools through a new app grid icon will soon be possible. Tapping the new icon opens a bottom sheet revealing all available tools, significantly improving user experience.

Although Google has not officially set a public release date, enthusiasm builds among users eager to utilize the more functional Multi Shortcuts button. As Google continues to innovate, these enhancements reflect a commitment to making technology more user-friendly and accessible. With each update, Google reinforces its role in the evolution of smart cities and urban innovation, driving a more connected and efficient future.
