    Fast Facts

    1. New Senior Plan: AT&T has launched the AT&T 55 Plus plan, offering affordable mobile service at $40/month for one line, specifically designed for customers aged 55 and up.

    2. Basic Features: The plan includes unlimited calls, texts, data in the US, Canada, and Mexico, 10GB of hotspot data, and streaming limited to 720p (SD), but lacks advanced features found in pricier options.

    3. Competitive Offering: This new plan is cheaper than AT&T’s previous senior offering of $62/month and aims to attract older Americans, providing a basic yet functional service for those on fixed incomes.

    4. Future Bundles: Later this summer, AT&T will also introduce a bundle for two lines of AT&T 55 Plus, paired with either AT&T Fiber or Internet Air, enhancing internet access for seniors.

AT&T Launches Affordable Plan for Seniors

AT&T has introduced a new mobile plan tailored for customers aged 55 and older. This initiative aims to provide seniors with an economical option for staying connected. The AT&T 55 Plus plan costs $40 per month for a single line. Alternatively, customers can pay $35 per month per line when they sign up for two lines. This pricing marks a significant reduction from AT&T’s previous senior offering, which cost $62 per month and was limited to Florida residents.

While this plan lacks the high-end features found in pricier options, it offers essential services. Users receive unlimited voice calls, texting, and data across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Additionally, the plan includes 10GB of hotspot data each month. Seniors can also access AT&T’s free ActiveArmor app, designed to block spam calls. Though the plan promises 5G access, details on availability remain unclear.

    Competitive Market for Senior Plans

AT&T joins a competitive field of carriers catering to older Americans. T-Mobile, for instance, offers a range of plans from cost-effective options to premium services. Prices start at $45 per month for their Essentials Choice 55 plan and go up to $85 for more comprehensive services. Verizon also provides relevant offerings, including a $62 monthly plan with unlimited 4G LTE.

Each carrier requires customers to set up autopay for the lowest pricing. Additionally, seniors must provide proof of age to enroll. Looking ahead, AT&T plans to launch a bundle this summer that combines the AT&T 55 Plus plan with either AT&T Fiber or fixed wireless internet services. This expansion reinforces AT&T’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for senior customers by offering flexible and affordable communication options.
