Meetup Launches Redesigned Mobile App to Enhance In-Person Connections

Meetup, a platform that helps people connect through in-person events, has relaunched its mobile app. This redesign aims to attract a younger audience, especially Gen Z and Millennials, who now represent 40% of active users. Since 2025, the app has experienced a 20% year-over-year increase in new registrations.

Starting today, users will notice a fresh interface that mirrors the recently updated website. The new app features vibrant colors, modern fonts, and improved navigation. These enhancements simplify access to profiles and groups directly from the homepage.

Chiara Vivaldi, Meetup’s product lead, emphasizes that the goal is to make the app fun and user-friendly. She notes, “We want to create a space where everyone feels comfortable attending events.” One key improvement will show a demographic breakdown of attendees for each event. Vivaldi highlights this feature as a way to help users, particularly women, feel more confident about showing up.

Additional updates include richer user profiles, which allow participants to get a sense of who they may meet. To further encourage community involvement, Meetup will introduce a “Super Organizer” badge for top event planners. This badge aims to signal to users that these organizers prioritize community building.

Looking ahead, Bending Spoons plans to unify separate apps for members and organizers into one platform. This change will streamline event planning and attendance tracking using QR codes. Vivaldi pointed out that 75% of organizers began as members, so integrating both roles in one app fosters a sense of community.

For those curious about the new features, the redesigned app is available for download on the App Store and Google Play. Now is an excellent time to explore Meetup and discover opportunities to connect with others in real life.
