Charles Hoskinson Reveals What Happened to 1,096 BTC From Cardano’s Early Days

Hoskinson Explains the Use of Early BTC Funds

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, recently shared details about a disputed stash of 1,096 Bitcoin (BTC). These coins date back to the project’s early crowdfunding phase from 2015 to 2017. During a livestream AMA, Hoskinson explained that the funds were used to pay for an audit in 2016 and 2017. He said the money was intended to cover costs for three independent auditors, including Michael Parsons, John McGuire, and Bruce Milligan. Hoskinson emphasized that the value of the BTC at that time was around $414 per coin, amounting to roughly $400,000. Critics, however, continue to question the transparency of this transaction.

Calls for Transparency and Ongoing Questions

Some analysts, like Thomas Braziel, remain skeptical. Braziel has demanded that Cardano’s team publish receipts, contracts, and approval records. He argues that knowing how the coins were spent is a vital part of transparency. Braziel also doubts the accuracy of Hoskinson’s explanation. He suggests that the funds may have been used later, once Bitcoin’s price increased significantly. Braziel points out that the organization controlling most of the BTC is believed to be IOHK, which reportedly controls around 95% of the raised funds. Meanwhile, the debate about governance and treasury management continues within the Cardano community. Hoskinson also mentioned plans to improve community engagement by moving discussions to Discord.
