    DNA as a Tiny, Powerful Storage Medium

For example, one gram of DNA can hold about 215 million gigabytes of information. That is much more than traditional storage devices. This discovery could lead to faster, more efficient data centers. It might also help computers process complex information better. The challenge, however, has been making biological DNA work smoothly with electronic parts.     How the New Memory Device Works

    The team used special synthetic DNA combined with a material called perovskite. Synthetic DNA, made from engineered molecules, can be arranged very precisely. When doped with silver nanoparticles, it can conduct electricity. The perovskite helps with electronic behavior, leading to a hybrid system. They built a device called a memristor, which can remember electrical activity even when power is off. Unlike regular electronics, this device uses 100 times less energy to store data. It is stable at high temperatures and can work continuously for weeks. This combination of DNA and perovskite creates a new way to build low-power, high-capacity memory systems.

    Opportunities and Challenges Ahead

    Researchers believe this technology has big potential, especially for artificial intelligence and brain-inspired computers. AI needs devices that process a lot of information while using little power. This DNA-based memory could be a game-changer. Still, practical use faces hurdles. Manufacturing these devices on a large scale is complex and costly at this stage. They need further development to become commercially available. Overall, this breakthrough shows how blending biology with electronics can lead to more efficient technology. It offers a glimpse of a future where data storage is faster, smaller, and energy-friendly.
