NASA to Introduce New Astronaut Class and Preview Artemis II Moon Mission

NASA is set to make an exciting announcement next month. The agency will introduce its 2025 class of astronaut candidates during a ceremony on Monday, Sept. 22, at Johnson Space Center in Houston. After reviewing over 8,000 applications, the new astronauts will be available for media interviews that day.

Furthermore, the ceremony will stream live on platforms such as NASA+, Netflix, and YouTube. This accessibility allows a wide audience to witness the selection process.

Following the astronaut introduction, NASA will hold briefings for the Artemis II mission on Sept. 23 and 24. Artemis II, targeted for launch in April 2026, marks a crucial step in deep space exploration. The mission will include NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, alongside Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, as they embark on a 10-day mission around the Moon.

Moreover, Artemis II will validate the systems needed for future human missions. This mission serves as the first crewed flight in NASA’s Artemis program, paving the way for subsequent lunar landings aimed at preparing for future Mars expeditions.

The media day on Sept. 24 will offer further insights into the mission’s support facilities and hardware. Attendees can engage with scientists, engineers, and flight directors, gaining a comprehensive understanding of Artemis operations.

NASA invites media to register for these events by the specified deadlines. In-person and virtual interview opportunities with astronauts and mission experts will also be available. Overall, this initiative highlights NASA’s commitment to advancing technology and expanding human presence in space, fundamentally enhancing our understanding of the universe.
