    Fast Facts

    1. Enhanced Performance: The Apple Watch SE 3 includes the top-of-the-line S10 chip, enabling features like Workout Buddy, Live Translation, and efficient Siri processing, enhancing the performance of this budget smartwatch.

    2. Charging Improvements: The SE 3 boasts a significant upgrade in charging speed, allowing up to 8 hours of use after just 15 minutes on the charger, addressing a major complaint from the previous generation.

    3. Screen Specifications: While the display size remains unchanged at 759 sq mm, the addition of an always-on display is a notable feature. However, it lacks the larger screens found in pricier models.

    4. Affordable Pricing: At $250, the Apple Watch SE 3 is positioned as a competitively priced option, maintaining durability with its aluminum design while providing essential health tracking capabilities without unnecessary sensors.

Apple Watch SE 3: A Response to Consumer Demands

Apple unveiled the Apple Watch SE 3, and many are pleased with its enhancements. Earlier this year, I presented an open letter to Apple, sharing suggestions for improving its entry-level smartwatch. After the recent iPhone event, it’s clear that some of my requests found their way to Cupertino.

First, the processor stands out. The SE 3 features the same S10 chip found in the Series 11. This upgrade empowers the watch to access watchOS 26 features, such as Workout Buddy and Live Translation. Onboard processing for Siri is another welcome addition, streamlining user interactions significantly.

While I had hoped for a larger display, the screen remains the same size as the SE Gen 2. Although the 759 square millimeter display feels compact compared to the Series 9 and Series 10, it’s functional. Apple added an always-on display, which enhances usability but isn’t essential.

One major request was for faster charging. The SE 2 was notably slow, taking over two hours to charge. Thankfully, the SE 3 resolves this issue. Now, it can gain eight hours of battery life in just 15 minutes. This improvement is crucial for users who rely on sleep tracking.

In terms of health features, the SE 3 tracks heart rate and provides sleep scores, similar to its pricier counterparts. It includes temperature sensors, making it suitable for users tracking ovulation. However, it lacks advanced sensors like ECG and hypertension detection, which may be a reasonable compromise for a budget smartwatch.

The SE 3 maintains a durable aluminum alloy case, avoiding the anticipated plastic version. At a price point of $250, it continues to offer a solid value proposition in the smartwatch market.

While not every suggestion made it to the final design, Apple’s responsiveness shows a commitment to consumer feedback. As urban innovation and smart technology evolve, products like the Apple Watch SE 3 highlight the potential for everyday devices to adapt to user needs.
