Google is rolling out a new feature for its Android Contacts and Phone apps in beta. This update, which allows users to create customizable calling cards, aims to enhance the incoming call experience.
Last July, Android Authority discovered hints of this feature during an APK teardown. Now, users can access it by installing the beta versions of the apps. Unlike Apple’s iOS implementation, which only allows users to personalize their own Contact Posters, Android’s approach is distinct. Specifically, you cannot create your own calling card. Instead, you can customize how your contacts appear on your screen when they call you.
If you have the beta version of the Contacts app, you will see an option that says, “Try adding a calling card.” You can select a photo from your gallery or capture a new image directly. Additionally, you can modify the font type and color for the contact’s name. This way, when someone calls, their image and name will prominently display on your screen.
Samsung has offered a similar feature known as profile cards for some time now, providing another option for users seeking personalization. However, Google’s new calling cards expand on customization options for Android users.
