    Quick Takeaways

    1. Slow Adoption: Despite the Qi2 wireless charging spec being announced in early 2023, major Android phone manufacturers are slow to include Qi2 support, limiting compatible device options primarily to the Google Pixel 10 series.

    2. Enhanced Features: Qi2 offers faster charging speeds (up to 25 watts) and embedded magnets for easier accessory alignment, but only the Pixel 10 Pro XL fully utilizes these capabilities.

    3. Samsung’s Complications: Samsung’s latest flagship models may be “Qi2 ready” but lack the necessary magnets for seamless accessory attachment, requiring additional cases for functionality.

    4. Limited Options: Other manufacturers, like OnePlus, face similar issues with weak magnetic support, while Motorola has not committed to Qi2 integration yet, resulting in minimal choices for consumers.

Android Phones Embrace Qi2 Charging Standard

The Qi2 wireless charging standard debuted in early 2023, offering faster charging and magnetic alignment features. However, many Android manufacturers have been slow to adopt this technology, leaving consumers yearning for compatibility.

Currently, only the Google Pixel 10 family offers full support. The base Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro maintain a charging speed of 15 watts. In contrast, the Pixel 10 Pro XL brings the enhanced Qi2.2 spec, allowing for wireless charging speeds of up to 25 watts. This upgrade caters to those seeking efficient, cable-free charging options.

Samsung’s latest flagship lineup—Galaxy S25, S25 Edge, Z Flip 7, and Z Fold 7—can charge wirelessly, but they are merely “Qi2 ready.” They still operate at 15 watts and lack embedded magnets. Thus, Qi2 accessories do not attach securely without additional magnetic cases.

OnePlus claims its OnePlus 13 supports Qi2; however, tests reveal weak magnets, hindering effective attachment to Qi2 peripherals. Similar to Samsung, using a compatible case resolves this issue.

Motorola remains vague about its plans for Qi2 compatibility, indicating a commitment to modern technology without specific timelines.

For users eager to adopt Qi2’s benefits, the Pixel 10 series stands out as the top choice. As the market evolves, it’s likely more manufacturers will join the Qi2 movement. Keeping an eye on future releases remains essential for those invested in wireless charging technology.
