The Arrival of UWB Technology
It’s been more than a year since Schlage introduced its first UWB-enabled smart lock. Now, the Schlage Sense Pro deadbolt lock launches on June 29th. At a price point of $399, this smart lock allows users to unlock doors hands-free. Instead of fumbling for keys or using biometric scans, customers can simply approach with a supported device. This technology redefines convenience in home security.
The Sense Pro uses Schlage’s proprietary Converge technology. It requires a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch to work effectively. The lock calculates speed, trajectory, and motion, unlocking seamlessly as you approach. Additionally, it supports Matter over Thread. This feature improves its compatibility with various smart home devices. Users will benefit from low-latency performance when paired with Thread-enabled Apple Home hubs, like selected Apple TV 4K and HomePod models.
The lock also supports Aliro, a standard for UWB hands-free unlocking and NFC tap-to-unlock. Schlage plans to roll out support for Aliro digital keys in Samsung Wallet and Google Wallet later this year. This expansion will enable hands-free unlocking for UWB-enabled Google and Samsung devices.
The Sense Pro includes built-in Wi-Fi, allowing remote management through the Schlage Home app or the Apple Home app. It boasts a battery life of up to six months with standard use. Users can keep track of battery levels with a low-battery indicator on the lock’s touchscreen. If the batteries do die, a built-in USB-C port provides temporary power for urgent situations.
The hands-free unlocking feature gained attention during CES 2025. When tested, the lock worked flawlessly despite RF interference in a crowded venue. This hands-free convenience not only elevates user experience but also raises questions about reliance on technology for security.
The only other lock currently supporting hands-free Aliro UWB unlocking is the Aqara U400, priced at $270. As Schlage’s Sense Pro arrives, users face a decision: embrace new technology or stick with traditional methods. The future of home entry may hinge on convenience over conventional security measures. This transition reflects larger trends in technology adoption and user preferences. As home security evolves, the Sense Pro sets the stage for seamless living.
