    Quick Takeaways

    1. Project Negligence: Severe mishandling of the Smart City drainage project led to excavation beyond the designated area, damaging essential gas, water, and electricity lines in Agartala.

    2. Service Disruptions: Unnotified damages resulted in supply breakdowns across multiple areas, causing significant hardships, including water shortages and business losses for residents.

    3. Allegations of Corruption: Workers reportedly extract copper from damaged cables for profit, highlighting a lack of supervision from contractor management and systemic neglect by authorities.

    4. Public Outcry: Frustrated citizens have demanded better oversight, accountability, and coordination to address ongoing disruptions amid growing traffic congestion and unscheduled power cuts.

    Disruption Strikes Agartala

Agartala faces turmoil due to negligence in the Smart City drainage project. Late last night, workers dug beyond the marked boundaries near Laxminarayan Bari. This mistake caused significant damage to gas pipelines, water lines, and electricity cables. Consequently, vital services across the city and nearby areas came to a halt.

Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited reported they received no prior notification about the excavation. As a result, areas like Circuit House, Guwalabasti, Shalbagan, Airport Road, and Abhoynagar experienced supply breakdowns. Residents now grapple with water shortages and unexpected business losses. Thus, the situation has created considerable household hardships.

    Residents Demand Accountability

Local sources raised concerns about workers extracting copper from damaged cables for profit. They noted a lack of supervision from contractor company officials. Residents accused both the administration and contractors of ongoing negligence.

Furthermore, the drainage work has intensified traffic congestion. Commuters, students, and office-goers now face extended delays. Additionally, unscheduled power cuts complicate the situation as residents prepare for upcoming festivals. Caught between Smart City aspirations and deteriorating services, frustrated citizens are calling for stricter oversight and better coordination to prevent future issues.
